Were We Really Surprised that Steve McNair was Keeping a 20-year-old Girl?
Seriously. People are acting shocked and surprised by the fact that Steve McNair had a twenty-year-old girlfriend on the side. Please. Nearly all these rich, pompous athletes keep women on the side. Typically, it is only after the news goes public that they are having an affair because paparazzi snaps a smooching photo somewhere that everyone finds out, including their embarrassed life-long partner and crushed children.
Let’s look back on a few, shall we. Let’s see, there has been: Shaq, Jordan, Magic, Kobe, Clemens, Bonds, A-Rod, Dwayne Wade, and a much longer list that goes on, and on, and on… So, again, why are people so shocked at Steve McNair’s infidelity? Well, I think there may be a two-part answer to that. First, Steve McNair was found dead with his cheat, two to the head and two to the chest, that’s a bad way to go—say what you will about divorce—it’s not death. Second reason is the PR/Marketing image the NFL Man of Year Award had ideally created for McNair.
Bottom line, a lot of athletes keep girls on the side, and though they really should come out with it, not many do, and not many end up in a scandal that implicates the girl and the athlete in homicide. Either way, we’re sorry that McNair had to lose his life. We wish his family the best. And hope he R.I.P.
